Nashville Tennessee

Many cities have a strong musical tradition belonging to a specific genre and none more so than Nashville Tennessee. It has been considered the capital of country music for many years and the recording, live concerts and music publishing done there has boosted the economy. The city receives many tourists each year and there is plenty to do for country music fans and non-fans alike.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is famous round the world and traces the history of the music and its performers. Major stars are inducted into the Hall of Fame with each one commemorated by a plaque and brief biography. One of the earliest inductees was the legendary Hank Williams. In 2001, the museum moved to a new building with more room to display memorabilia such as costumes, musical instruments and photographs. There is also a small concert space within the building.

The city is not just about music and sport is important to the people of Nashville Tennessee too. The Sommet Center was opened in 1996 to accommodate sporting occasions and it is home to the NHL National Predators and the AFL Nashville Kats. The venue has also hosted competitions for gymnastics, figure skating and basketball and is used for concerts.

The history of the area is an interesting one and the best place to learn about the past in Nashville Tennessee is at the Tennessee State Museum. There are exhibits relating to the time before it was a colony up until the present day. Displays include furniture, silver and paintings and a great deal of military mementos. The Civil War is given particular attention with uniforms, weapons and flags from the period. There is also a section on the life and times of President Andrew Jackson. The military museum has information on conflicts from the Spanish American War to World War II. The gift shop sells hand made crafts and jewelry.

One of the most unusual buildings to be found in Nashville Tennessee is The Parthenon, an accurately scaled replica of the famous building in Greece. It stands in Centennial Park, a large public park in the city and was originally constructed in 1897. However, it was re-built in the 1920s with more modern concrete building methods. This reminder of Ancient Greece houses an art museum.

Visitors who need a shopping fix won't be disappointed in Nashville Tennessee. The Opry Mills shopping mall has many well known stores, such as Barnes & Noble and Bass Pro Shops. There are several food outlets, including Johnny Rockets and TGI Fridays. The center also has an IMAX movie theatre.
